Capital, well
harboured.
Specialized private financing for professionals, business owners and families building lasting wealth.
Private capital, patiently arranged.
Thornquay brings together experience in private equity, lending and insurance-based finance with access to private pools of capital. We work with clients and their advisors to fund opportunities that do not fit a standard bank file, and we take the time to structure them properly.
Every facility is underwritten on its own merits, structured with your accountant, lawyer and insurance advisor, and managed with discretion from the first conversation to the final repayment.
Insurance-based financing
Facilities that fund permanent life insurance premiums, secured against the policy's value, so your capital stays invested in your practice or business.

Permanent life insurance is often the right tool for estate, succession or buy-sell planning, but paying premiums from cash ties up capital that could stay in your practice or business. A Thornquay facility pays the premiums instead.
Hold the policy
You or your corporation own a permanent policy chosen with your insurance advisor.
Funds the premiums
A credit facility pays the premiums. The policy's value is assigned as collateral, with other security if needed.
Repaid as planned
The facility is repaid on a schedule agreed at the start, from cash flow, a liquidity event or the policy itself.

The kinds of problems we are asked to solve.
Estate planning without draining the corporation
A physician with retained earnings in a professional corporation wants permanent coverage for the next generation, but needs the capital for a clinic expansion.
Approach: premiums funded by a facility secured on the policy, repaid on a planned schedule.
Funding a buy-sell agreement
Two partners in a private company need insurance to fund a buy-sell agreement, without diverting cash from operations during a growth phase.
Approach: a facility for each policy, structured with the company's lawyer and accountant.
Refinancing a legacy arrangement
A family holds a leveraged insurance arrangement whose lender terms no longer suit them, and wants a second opinion and clearer terms.
Approach: a full review of the current terms and, where it makes sense, a refinancing.
